Preventing Fire Damage To Your Home

Dryer lint is highly flammable!

Dryer lint causes approximately 15,000 house fires every year. Even if, you clean your lint trap regularly, your dryer lint still is a fire hazard.

Some of the lint gets through the trap and builds up inside the duct. This means the dryer cannot vent hot air properly which in turn could cause the ignition of the lint.

Here are some tips to preventing fire damage to your home:
  1. Cleaning your dryer lint trap is crucial to prevent lint ignition. As a bonus, this also helps your cloths to dry faster.
  2. Replace plastic or foil dryer ducts with solid or flexible metal dryer ducts to prevent lint build up.
  3. Clean inside, behind and underneath the dryer to remove lint build up.
  4. Don't use liquid fabric softener on all-cotton clothing made of fleece, terry cloth, or velour. It increases the flammability of this type of clothing and, therefore, increases the flammability of the lint.
