Signs that Your Water Heater Requires Repair

There are several key signs that homeowners and business owners can be aware of which may indicate an issue with your water heater. Identifying and addressing these problems immediately can help you avoid larger, more expensive issues in the long run.

If any of the following are true, you might need water heater repairs:

  • Your water heater is over 10 years old
  • Your home or building only has cold or lukewarm water
  • The tank of your water heater shows signs of deterioration or rust
  • Your water tank is experiencing a leak
  • The water coming from your faucets is discolored
  • There is evidence of sediment buildup in the tank of your water heater
  • Your water heater has not been properly maintained

When your water heater requires repairs, you can rely on CPI Plumbing & Heating to get the job right the first time around. Do You Need to Replace Your Water Heater?

If a replacement water heater is necessary, we will help you determine which one is right for your home and budget, taking into consideration your family’s or business’s water heating needs and energy usage expectations. CPI Plumbing & Heating knows how to install nearly any type or brand of water heater, including tankless water heater models.

Types of water heaters we can install include:

  • Conventional water heater
  • Tankless water heater
  • Hybrid heat pump water heater

Through our Kelly’s Club Membership, our customers can sign up for an annual, exclusive maintenance program. Some of the benefits include a 15% discount on services and extended warranties on new installations.

Water Heater Maintenance Tricks of the Trade

Preventative maintenance is key to extending the life of your water heater and minimizing the need for repairs. Here are some preventative measures that CPI can help you with to prolong the life of one of the most important appliances in your home:

  • Tank flush— this removes sediment build up from the bottom of the tank.
  • Inspect/ install anode rod or second anode rod—this rod sacrifices itself to protect the tank. Poor water conditions that can corrode the water heater will now eat away at the anode rod(s).
  • Check the water pressure— excess pressure can wear the tank, pipes and joints which can lead to a leak or burst.
  • Inspect/ install thermal expansion tank— when water heats it expands and may create additional internal pressure. A thermal expansion tank allows for that extra volume of expanded water to enter the expansion tank and prevent a ruptured water heater.
  • Inspect temperature/ pressure relief valve—this key safety feature releases excessive pressure if the tank's thermostat malfunctions.
  • Inspect the thermostat— this regulates the temperature of the water.
  • Install a water alarm— should you have a leak, the water alarm will sound and help save your home from water damage.
  • Install a water softener— "hard" water can cause damage by leaving mineral deposits in the appliance. A water softener will break down the minerals in the water.

Upgrade to a Tankless Water Heater!

Imagine running your hotel, kitchen, or business without worrying about your hot water! Imagine having enough hot water to shower everyone in the family without a fight. With a tankless water heater, you can enjoy all the hot water you want because it's heated on-demand.

CPI Plumbing can install a tankless hot water system for your home or business ensuring that you never run out of hot water, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whereas a commercial hot water tank usually lasts three to four years, we have never had to replace one of the tankless water heaters that we have installed. We have been putting them in for over 10 years now and counting.

Ten years of continuous use is an excellent benefit to the tankless system. Saving money and energy through their use depends on wise usage and proper control of daily volumetric consumption. When you’re ready to upgrade to a tankless water heater, be sure to call CPI!
