Oasis Teen Shelter

The YMCA Oasis Teen Shelter & Daylight Center provides shelter, meals and a safe place for homeless teenagers in the Valley to stay. In 2015, they helped 54 homeless youth who spent 782 nights at the shelter where they were served 1,430 meals.

CPI Plumbing and Heating was contacted by Josh Baldwin with Quantum construction and Kris Tully with Savi Bank about replacing three old toilets and a broken shower stall.

CPI technicians Jordan Young- Treadway & Preston Hunter volunteered to remove and install the new toilets. “It is so important to give back to our community, and I am just glad to be a part of it.” ~ Preston Hunter.

Journeyman plumber Steve Murray and General Manager Brad Tully delivered toilets donated by Ferguson in the morning. Steve oversaw the toilet replacement.

After inspecting the shower stall, they concluded they could bring a professional to repair the shower stall instead of replacing the whole shower stall. The fiberglass repair was performed by Steve Priser with The Stevign Group and paid for through CPI’s Charity Club.

Jordan and Preston got to work removing the toilets as quickly as possible after turning off the water. One of the toilets almost wouldn’t come out, and both of the technicians had to take turns loosening the old bolts! In just under an hour, they turned the water back on.

An ADA toilet was installed in the upstairs bathroom. This makes it possible for the Oasis Teen Shelter to help teens with disabilities and provide them with a safe place to stay.

When the technicians removed the downstairs toilet, they found the flange had completely rusted away. Did they have to call CPI for the part or send one of the technicians to get the new part? No! They had one available in their mini-warehouse, the CPI truck.

The second bathroom required a tiny custom toilet due to the way the room and plumbing were situated to comply with all regulations. So the CPI guy’s cleaned up and replaced all of the internal parts on the nicest toilet they had pulled out of one of the bathrooms and installed the toilet in the remaining bathroom.

This project is another example of CPI’s mission statement: “We are committed to creating a positive impact in the communities we serve while providing a secure and satisfying workplace for our team members.”
