7 Need-to-Know Water Heater Maintenance Tips

Water Heater Maintenance in Skagit CountyRegular Water Heater Maintenance is Key to Reliable Operation

Here are some tips and tricks to prolong the life of your hot water heater straight from the pros at CPI Plumbing and Heating!

1. Flush out sediment. Regularly flush your tank to remove any sediment buildup from the bottom of the tank.

2. Install an anode rod. Poor water conditions can corrode your water heater. So think about installing an Anode Rod or 2nd Anode Rod. This rod sacrifices itself to protect the tank. If you already have an Anode Rod installed, inspect it on at regularly basis, so you know when it is time to replace it.

3. Check your water pressure. Excess pressure can wear the tank, pipes and joints which can lead to a leak or burst.

4. Install a thermal expansion tank. To prevent a ruptured water heater, install a Thermal Expansion Tank. When water is heated, it expands and creates internal pressure. A thermal expansion tank is able to prevent a rupture by holding the expanded hot water if it becomes too much for the main hot water tank to hold.

5. Inspect the temperature & pressure relief valve. This key safety feature releases excessive pressure if the tank's thermostat malfunctions.

6. Install a water alarm. Installing a water alarm will let you know if your tank has sprung a leak, and help save your home from water damage.

7. Consider a water softener. A water softener will break down the minerals in the water and prevent damage caused by "hard" water.
