Tricks Of The Trade

Here Are Some Preventative Measures to Prolong the Life of One of the Most Important Appliances in Your Home.
.
  • Flush Tank— this removes sediment build up from the bottom of the tank.
  • Inspect/ Install Anode Rod or 2nd Anode Rod—This rod sacrifices itself to protect the tank. Poor water conditions that can corrode the water heater will now eat away at the Anode Rod/s.
  • Check Water Pressure— excess pressure can wear the tank, pipes and joints which can lead to a leak or burst.
  • Inspect/ Install Thermal Expansion Tank— when water heats it expands and may create additional internal pressure. A thermal expansion tank allows for that extra volume of expanded water to enter the expansion tank and prevent a ruptured water heater.
  • Inspect Temperature/ Pressure Relief Valve—this key safety feature releases excessive pressure if the tank's thermostat malfunctions.
  • Inspect Thermostat— this regulates the temperature of the water.
  • Install a Water Alarm— should you have a leak, the water alarm will sound and help save your home from water damage.
  • Water Softener— "hard" water can cause damage by leaving mineral deposits in the appliance, a water softener will break down the minerals in the water.
